so. suckless. "software that sucks less." who wouldn't want that? looking at their software, it's pretty good. works well, maybe not exactly my tea, but it's nice nonetheless.
the problem i have is with their community. first, i'd like to know why so much of their community is on reddit. i thought that they were against that? it's quite ironic too, considering that they will mark any software that "phones home," as "sucking." for example, the kitty terminal (which i use, and am rather fond of), supposedly "sucks" because it has an update checker--which you can easily disable--and it counts as "surveillance".
another thing is there idea of minimalism. i'm not a big fan of ultra-minimalism myself, but suckless really goes to the extreme here. there's no runtime configuration, you want to make a change? edit a build flag. worse, most of the time there's not even a option for it, because that's "bloat". you have to go and find a (likely outdated) patch somewhere.
i'm sorry, but i do not want to spend my time scouring the internet for patches, fixing them, and rebuliding my software every time i want to make a change. i really don't understand why anyone would ever want this. it's 2026, cmon, we're not limited to 16mb of memory anymore. i'm sure you can spare 100 mb for your wm even on a 4gb system.
